pressure (archive dip #1)

Damn this tooth of mine, i thought after a week of painkillers i'd managed to kill the bastard nerve a couple of weeks back. But no it has returned, not as bad as before, but i can't chew on the tooth as any pressure just sends out pain. Nice. Fucking tooth. Roll on my root canal, that'll teach the bastard. Anyway here is the first dip into my archive, it's only a couple of weeks old but i'm still trying to spread the message to check out Jimmy Smith.

jimmy smith r.i.p.

One of the basslines i've been attempting to learn, and frustratingly i'm still nowhere near recreating it, is from a track by the Beastie Boys called Root Down. A real classy funky bassline (also their track "Alright Hear This" also contains a cracker) they pretty much sampled their track Root Down wholesale from the Jimmy Smith (1 & 2) track of the same name. As a tribute? I don't know, but i'd like to think so.

Jimmy Smith passed away yesterday at the age of 79. RIP.

I'm off to attach a piece of string to a door handle, and the other end to my tooth, knowing my luck it'll result in me extracting my entire lower jaw.
